Face to face communication – old style? No!
It 'amazing how dependent we have become a society of electronic communication! E-mail, SMS, PDAs, mobile phones, video conferencing, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, and more … the place where the good old fashioned face to face communication is the source of many interpersonal problems and poor communication in the workplace today.
You can think of … Why are my interpersonal skills when most companies make 99% of communicationby telephone, teleconferencing, videoconferencing, email and in rare cases, by email. A popular way of thinking today … but it is the right path? Face-to-face communication is still the most powerful human interaction, "says Kathleen Begley, Ed.D., author of face to face communication, the man in a world of technological connections. "How beautiful are the electronic devices, can never fully replace the intimacy and urgency of the people and speak the same ratesIt worked for millions of years. "
In business we talk about B2B (Business to Business) and B2C (business to consumer) methods. I looked up trend (in a positive way to go jump) stress the importance of communicating face-to-face. You hear me talk a lot of "P2P" (people-to-people), compounds and how important it is to understand the technology and talk face to face with friends, family, colleagues, customers, suppliers and the like. You might think it's a bit 'dated;but in my opinion there is no replacement for the man-close and personal contact. Do not get me wrong, there is a solution for high-tech equipment we have today, and I use it regularly, but not always my first and best choice.
A few decades ago, John Naisbitt in his 1960 mega best seller, Megatrends: Ten New Directions Transforming our lives, a new concept in the foreground with "high-tech, high touch." His idea was that "if a state has beenanonymous electronic communications, which would be closer personal contacts. "I think that was right on target!
We live in a society that flock to the local bar or dinner in a cafe to chat with friends or business is proof of our need for human interaction, especially when most coffee lovers can have a latte or cappuccino right make their homes. Think of the fortunes of coffee on our institutions need to face to facecommunication! People-to connections between people …
We have heard of many children (and adults) who have just spent countless hours playing video games. But the game Production Association in 2003, reported that sales of family game (like Monopoly and Scrabble) is fast growing and growing 20% a year. Skull recently with a completely new range of games for us "little people" (age 3 +). The people to people links start at an early age – if you have not heardwhat I would ask my father Hush "story to tell!
Even when a disaster and new media brings these events into our homes and workplaces via TV, radio and internet, look for opportunities to participate in pain. I personally waited in line for almost three hours with hundreds of others to visit Ground Zero in New York since it opened in December 2001. Many people have a house left the temporary closure of the victims of the tragedy to glory. The people to peopleConnections …
We lead hectic, multi-tasking life, both at home and at work these days, and we believe that the need for balance is more than a few days ago. We know that technology can be impersonal, but it's fast! We know that we need time to make room for more people to people relations, but the reality of the fast pace we have not much time for this most intimate form of communication. One might think that it is much faster than a phone call to send a business guidee-mail or via videoconference thoughts of a meeting? Yes and no. It 's a paradox of communication … Faster is not always better.
So a better question would be how we might best of both worlds – technology and face to face, people-to-people relations?
As the redesign of fashion and come back with a variation on an old style of days gone-by, I think it's time for reconstruction and modernization face to face (P2P) communication skills.
Usneed to balance the right to have! People-to-people (P2P) communication skills is a key factor of success in business, even in this age of technology. There are many cases – often in conflict, hurt feelings, a high priority, or a large sum of money – to challenge business people take the time and effort to enter the same room to exchange information. Videoconferencing is a good simulation, and convenient method in which individuals in remoteplaces, but there is still no substitute for good old-fashioned communication face-to-face.
My word … Let's take a look at some of the experts say.
Tom Peters, business guru to international fame, says without reservation that you always have to look face to face communication. Otherwise, disaster will lead to a career. "We believe in high-tech, high touch," writes Peters. "No doubt, technology is the great enabler but.Strangely, now the man a bit 'more, not less, important than ever. "
Sheila Hodge, author of the global harvest: the art of communication and make Deal Anywhere in the world, said: "The modern office is full of gadgets – Computer and Internet uplinks and downlinks, video conferencing and online databases, many people think they should. Let the technology invented to deal with the messy task of connecting with people. "
Jo-Ellan Dimitrius, in his book People are talkingas the young, technically oriented people tend to communicate mostly in computer chat. "Are you better be a communicator, you must be a deliberate attempt to influence other people (personally involved to do)," he writes. "Even the most hardened Internet junkie can learn the true meaning of" chat "if the desire is there, but you have to get off the couch and make it happen."
Gary McClain and Deborah Romaine in their book, the book Everything managing people isso … "Consistent, daily communication face-to-face promotes more than a good feeling, but also effectively promote teamwork and cooperation."
"One of the most critical areas of communications law to do business, one-on-one situation – in particular the advice, constructive feedback and annual performance evaluations," says Chris Roebuck in effective communication.
One of my favorite quotes with ease by Margaret Wheatley, who will meet: EasyConversations provide hope for the future, said: "I think we can change the world if you start talking to each other again."
Sounds like we have something here … What can you do? Start by taking an honest look at methods of communication, and your attitude towards technology (P2P) face to face interaction. You e-mail more and sit less for economic reasons? Want to avoid contact with people mostly because of lack of social skills? If the lattertrue, it must act before it is too late.
The next time you're tempted to e-mail, SMS or phone call to make for purposes other than routine stop sending! Back to basics. Go out of your comfort zone and instead send an e-mail, SMS or call to set up a face to face to face meeting with the person behind the technology! Why not? Because it works!
Meet people, the connections between people … You and your company will be glad you did!
